Very rare antique and beautiful all-bisque standing Kewpie-like doll/figurine featuring a Civil War Veteran soldier, wearing the G.A.R (*). slouch hat with wreath insignia, rifle and sabre.
All made of one piece
untinted
bisque, with left hand on back and holding rifle with right hand.
Unmarked or signed, but very
probably made in
Germany
, circa 1920’s.
(*) G.A.R is the abbreviation for “Grand Army of the Republic", the fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army (United States Army), Union Navy (U.S. Navy), Marines and the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service who served in the American Civil War for the Northern/Federal forces. It was founded in 1866.
