Description
This is an 1893 inlaid "marquetry" billiard "TROPHY TABLE
" made - and awarded - as a championship trophy - by the BENEDICT BILLIARD TABLE CO. SYRACUSE NY. These were called the "EMBLEM" of the tournament and were often passed from one winner to the next. This is without question a one of a kind item. Even the rails are inlaid. There are birds at the corners of the cabinet. I replaced the rotted original dark green felt with precisely what was on it when found (original), and very carefully and thoroughly cleaned the piece more than 30 years ago. The brass nameplate was perfectly reproduced from a
correct original
full-sized brass plate. The tiny diamonds are made of what you'd expect in the 1890s. Its dimensions are: 18 1/2" long, 10" wide, and 6 1/4" tall. You''ll never see another one of these. The accompanying 2 images simply show another miniature billiard tournament "EMBLEM", made entirely of
silver
, and the 1890s Philadelphia newspaper article recounting the tournament. These are one of the the rarest of all antique billiard collectibles and the only one we ever had the chance to own in the 3 1/2 decades we collected them world wide. The plexiglass cover is included.
