Wilm attended the arts and crafts schools in Munich and Paris, became an employee of the "Jugend" in 1908 and worked as a graphic artist. He has created around 227 bookplates, and his decorative talent has been praised again and again. In 1924 he began to study art history and received his doctorate in 1928 with a thesis on Gothic clay sculptures. In 1931 he ended his artistic activity and worked exclusively as a journalist. Blum (2007, p. 4) writes: "Today, Dr. Hubert Wilm's bookplates are among the best works at the beginning of the 20th century. Century and are accordingly sought-after collector's items.
