Description
SUPERB PAIR OF CAST BRASS CANDELABRUM EASTERN EUROPEENORMOUS BRASS CANDELABRUM
Each having three candle holders. Fine lathe turned
details and some hand engraving on the arms.
Early 19th century cast brass with huge bases.
Old type hand worked screws on the candle holders,
and machine worked screw at the bottom of the column.
Screws at top of the columns are locked in place and
cannot be budged. These were electrified at one time
we believe, because all candle holders, saucers, top
of columns, and the bases have closed holes. This
is seldom seen, not the electrification, but reversing
to candles.
It was done with a red brass so is easily
seen. They may have been used in a church or
synagogue. Typical style in Eastern Europe.....
Poland, Russia, and neighboring countries.
MANY PHOTOGRAPHS BELOW OUR DESCRIPTION
The design of the arm branch holding the
candle sockets is very old. Possibly a vine with
grape leaves. Through the centuries
becoming more
and more stylized. We date this pair of candelabrum
1820 - 1850. Very scarce, especially a pair.
The height at center is about 15 inches. Greatest
width across the saucer area is 14 inches. The
diameter of the bases about 8 and 1/2 inches.
Each candelabra weighs approximately 8 pounds.
